Hey, y’all! My name is Jonna Bonnette and I am from a small town in Mississippi. I currently live in the Jackson Metro with my husband Linell and our two dogs, Ty and Roux. Since I was a little girl, writing has been my go-to hobby. I used to write these poems for my mom that were literary masterpieces. Looking back, they probably weren’t much better than ‘Roses are red, Violets are blue,’ but I thought I was a prodigy.
When I got into college, I realized that Elementary Education wasn’t my thing and so I started taking creative writing classes. I thought it was super intriguing for poetry to be dark, edgy, and raw. God bless me, right? I felt intimidated by my professor and peers and was unable to write from my heart. Once I got into my upper level literature classes, my style really took form and I was able to craft my words exactly how I intended them.
My fondest memory of writing was in my senior thesis class. I took the Oscar Wilde quote “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” and turned it into a weird, poetic short story flashing back and forth from childhood to present day in the form of taking a roller coaster ride. It was in that moment I realized, ‘hey, I’m kind of good at this.’ As far as this blog goes, posts are scattered in subject matter and sometimes I go months without posting. For that, I apologize, but I sincerely hope you enjoy reading my words as much as I enjoy typing them.
